Troubleshooting (2): Windows 2000 CD player does not work with threeTIX

A few users wrote me, that their W2K CD player did not accept data from this server.
With some of them, I took several tests without result.
Other Windows 2000 users wrote me, that they had success in up- and downloading.

On the "bad systems", it looks as if the client (DeluxeCD.exe) does not even try to get a connection.
Instead, it shows the message
Unable to connect to album information providers
Check your Internet settings and try again

Often, third party programs cause the failure (mostly so called "download managers" - read below).

Anyway, here are some more ideas for testing.

I assume, you have already studied Troubleshooting (1): "This album was not found on the Internet"

Is the threeTIX service still working?
Yes! Try this link to check if it's working here and now. (Album information about "Thriller" should appear).

Log check
For checking if you have connected to threeTIX anyway, we can use the following procedure:
  • Go online (as you likely are if you read this).
  • Visit the original service routine by clicking on this link. The result reads something like:
[Daily statistics for (your current IP-address(es) here)]
HTTP GET query count=3 (increases also by using this procedure)
    HTTP GET upload count=1
    HTTP POST upload count=0

  • Remember the counts.
  • Start DeluxeCD.exe and try a query and/or upload.
  • Visit the original service routine and compare the counts. Did they increase?

"RealJukebox" / "RealDownload" installed?
If you have installed "RealJukebox" prior to using DeluxeCD, it will never attempt to connect to the network even if the threeTIX entries are present and correct in the registry.

As far as I found out, after deinstallation of the co-installed tool "RealDownload", DeluxeCD download works, again.

Further, after RealJukebox is removed, connections will now work, but the DeluxeCD app no longer autoruns an audio CD.

Microsoft Knowledge Base Article Q259473 shows how to rectify the autorun.
Maybe there's no need to edit the sysoc.inf file, if there is no 'HIDE' comment.
Thanks to Peter Scales for the info.

Any Download Manager installed?
As I was reported or found out, DeluxeCD (Windows 2000 Version) doesn't even attempt to get the data from the web, when certain download managers are installed.
Currently, problems with the following programs are known:
  • "Netscape Download Manager" 1.4
  • "GetRight" v5.0.2
  • "RealDownload" (see box above)
After deinstallation of that programs, the DeluxeCD download worked, again.

"Zipmagic" installed?
If you have installed "Ontrack Zipmagic 2000 3.0" you may have troubles, too.
Please see Microsoft Knowledge Base Article Q276500 for details.
